If you are an avid gardener and live in the mid-Atlantic,
then do I have the volunteer group for you! The Hardy
Plant Society is a wonderful organization designed to
share gardening information. They have wonderful seminars,
members’ gardens are open throughout the year and
they have several special interest groups, all of whom
have activities throughout the year. Even if you aren’t
in the mid-Atlantic region, there are lots of HPS groups
throughout the country. It is definitely worth looking
into one in your area: http://www.hardyplant.org

Hellebores.
The hellebore is an indispensable plant for any garden,
particularly the winter garden. One of my good friends,
fondly referred to by those of us that know and love him
as “Mr Hellebore,” has started selling his
own. Brandywine Cottage, owned by David Culp, specializes
in hybrid hellebores. I can’t say enough wonderful
things about David and his special Brandywine Hellebores.
Here’s a link so you can contact him and arrange
to get your own special hellebore. You won’t find
any better! http://www.davidlculp.com/ |

Planting
zone. The best way to help a plant succeed
is to put it in the right place! You’ll have much
less hassle than if you put it where you think it looks
best. Part of the “right place” is the “right
zone.” Try this link if you’re not sure of
your planting zone. http://www.usna.usda.gov/Hardzone/ushzmap.html |
Pennsylvania
Horticultural Society. Even if you’re
not from this area, this is one of the best horticultural
societies in the United States, and is rich in information.
Of course, you’re in the area the first week of
March, the Philadelphia Flower Show, put on by PHS, is
not to be missed.
